Alistair McKinlay
Alistair is a Partner in the Residential Property department, based in South Elmsall Pontefract, where he works alongside Adam Fletcher and Ashley Sowerby. He joined Ridley & Hall in February 2020 to help further develop the firm and department’s profile, having been a Partner for over 20 years at a well known Leeds practice.
He is an experienced property solicitor and qualified in 1997. Throughout his career, Alistair has specialised in all types of property related matters, with a particular focus on acting for clients buying and selling properties.
As well as dealing with routine sales and purchases, Alistair also advises clients on leasehold transactions, including shared ownership leases, re-mortgages and acquisitions of new-build properties. He has acted for a number of developers during his career and is familiar with the planning and infrastructure issues which can arise in these types of transactions. He also represents property investors who are looking to grow and expand their portfolios.
He acts for clients across the whole of England and Wales and is proud of the fact that these clients, as well as estate agents, mortgage brokers and accountants, come back to him and frequently recommend him to their friends and families, having appreciated his clear and concise advice and approachability.
Alistair was a member of the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) Technical Panel for 5 years, during which time he helped guide and shape policy nationally on the residential conveyancing process, liaising with other law firms and lenders to establish best practice for the profession as a whole. He also presented a webinar on the CQS Core Practice Standards, which was used for training across the country.
Outside of work, Alistair is a Governor at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School & Wakefield Girls’ High School and also sings in a local community choir. Whenever possible he likes to spend time at the East Yorkshire coast with his wife and daughters and their loveable and energetic springer spaniel.
